Caring For Your New Puppy

The first weeks are important for building healthy routines, bonding with your puppy, and giving them the best start in life. From proper nutrition and gentle training to grooming and veterinary care, a little preparation goes a long way in raising a happy, healthy companion.

Our Guarantee

With more than 60 years of devotion to Cocker Spaniels, we guarantee every puppy from Cocker-Spaniels.com® arrives in perfect health: happy, well-cared for, and free of known genetic disorders - giving you peace of mind as you welcome your new family member home.

First Veterinary Visit

  • Timeline: Present your puppy to your veterinarian within 3 business days for a health check.

  • Guarantee: If your vet believes the puppy is unfit, have them contact us directly for consultation.

  • Note: We do not cover vet bills unless pre-approved and confirmed by our veterinary staff.

  • Tip: If you don’t already have a veterinarian, look for one with a good reputation, fair pricing, and strong community references. Always ask for total costs up front.

Health Precautions

A puppy’s immune system isn’t fully developed until after their 12-week vaccination. Follow these precautions:

  • Never place your puppy on unsanitized floors, furniture, or vet exam tables.

  • Avoid exposing your puppy to public areas like sidewalks, pet stores, and dog parks until vaccinations are complete.

  • Important: Do not put your puppy down on airport property—these grounds are heavily contaminated by traveling dogs worldwide.
  •

Lifetime Support

We provide lifetime consultation on health, diet, training, grooming, or emergencies. If you don’t have a vet, we can recommend trusted professionals. Our veterinary team is available for urgent consultation if your local vet cannot be reached.

Puppy Safety Net

Life can change—marriage, housing, finances, or health may affect your ability to keep a puppy.
If you are ever unable to care for your dog:
Contact us, and we will either provide a home here or help place your puppy in a safe, loving home. We stay in touch with our puppy families to ensure none of our dogs ever end up in shelters.

Diet & Nutrition

  • Recommended food: Diamond Naturals Small Breed Puppy (avoid corn, soy, and fish).

  • Supplements: Keep your puppy on NuVet supplements (required for guarantee). Order before your puppy arrives.

  • Extra nutrition: We encourage adding fresh chicken liver, raw eggs, and vegetables for a healthy diet.

Health Treatment Disclaimer

To protect your puppy’s health, certain treatments are not covered under our guarantee:

  • Lepto vaccine before 1 year of age

  • 6-month heartworm injections (use monthly tablets instead)

  • Emergency 24-hour clinics (our experience has shown frequent misdiagnosis and overmedication)

Administering any of the above will void guarantees.
